Pastor Melanie Ihmels
I am a Mom, Wife, and Minister who has read voraciously for 50 of her 51 years!
Only one? That is impossible! I have a number of favorites: The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery, The Pern Series, by Anne McCaffery, The Valdemar Series by Mercedes Lackey, anything by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I read voraciously and it is very hard to have one favorite!
What does LITERACY mean to you?
As I was growing up literacy was my saving grace. It allowed me to escape from the challenging homelife I endured into worlds far beyond where I was. It gave me knowledge, and mystery, adventure and fun, love and an outlet for grief. Literacy meant everything to me then and today it is one of my core characteristics.
What books do you recommend?
What genre? Mystery, one of the classics, Agatha Christie or perhaps Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his Sherlock Holmes; science fiction, Mercedes Lackey (who also is a favorite in fantasy, Naomi Novik or Brandon Sanderson, or Michael Sullivan are all suburb fantasy writers, and of course there is CS Lewis and Tolkien! Whatever piques your interest in the non-fiction realm grab a book and devour it!
Why are these questions so hard?? I have so many!! Two favorites from Tolkien: “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us,” and “Not all those who wander are lost.” And there is the ultimate: “The Answer to the ultimate question of Life, The Universe and Everything is…42!” by Douglas Adams!
